Just acquired a Promecam RG25.12 (48' x 25 ton) press brake. We looked at it today and, even though it's not working properly, decided to take a chance on it. It runs and the head travels but it seems to have no power. It will bend a very small piece of metal but as soon you step up the size a bit the machine stalls. It has a pressure guage which hardly moves when pressure is applied.

I've got the manual from amada. They use to have promecam stuff. I have a similar press (mine is a rg-103) but the controller is different (hurco auto bend 5). PREFACE Read this manual carefully to obtain a thor-ough knowledge of machine operation and maintenance.

I'm guessing 3 possibilities: 1) Oil bypassing in badly worn cylinders, 2) A worn out pump, or, 3) A defective or improperly adjusted relief valve. The latter would be the least onerous to repair and is, to my mind at least, the most likely scenario, but I'm wondering what others think. We've been in business for many ears but have no experience with brakes and shears. We got the brake for a pretty good price ($1200) so we thought it was worth taking a chance. Anybody have any ideas? Any idea where we could pick up a manual?

We did get the machine working. After getting it back to our shop and hooking it up it still had no power to bend anything-I hadn't really expected the travel experience to fix the problem.

A few days later had some time and started looking for problems. First step was to pull off the rear cover and remove the cover from the top of the reservoir.

The Promecam is unusual in that the pump sits inside the tank and is chain driven by a motor which mounts to a flange on the outside. The pressure line from the pump passes through a bulkhead fitting in the wall of the tank and feeds the control valves. When I started poking around inside the tank I discovered that a big honkin' nut on the inside of the bulkhead fitting was so loose that I could turn it by hand. A quick fireup of the machine revealed that as soon as the oil pressure started to rise the oil spewed out of the fitting. The only thing I had to do to fix the problem was tighten up the nut.

All in all it took less than a half hour to diagnose the problem, find the right size wrench and make it right. Definitely got lucky on this one.
