Cne Exam Practice Questions

Hi all, Looking to connect with those who have taken the CNE exam under the 2012-2013 handbook. Today I took the exam and was extremely nervous. All of my exam prep activities were giving me varying feedback. I would achieve anywhere from a 63%-85% on practice exams unfortunately I failed.

I didn't totally bomb it. I failed by 1 question. But a failure is a failure and I need to move on and continue to study so I can pass the next time. Does anyone have some sound advice to provide?

I have both the 1st and 2nd Ed CNE STudy guides by Price-Witt. I also performed the SAE. And surprisingly those results did not correlate with my performance areas on the actual exam. Any feedback on the archived Nurse Tim webinar or the CNe prep sessions offered at various locations advertised by the NLN? I feel like I am at a stand still.

Like I'm all studied out. Another testing issue I know I experienced was I could narrow it down to 2 answers and then got stuck. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thank you all so much in advance for your responses. I took and passed the exam this week. My margin for passing was not very high, but I did pass. As others have said, as I sat for the test I felt I was as prepared as I was going to be. While there was no topic on the exam that was new or that I had not reviewed, I felt some topics that were emphasized in review materials and practice tests were not emphasized on the exam. I used the Certified Nurse Educator Review Manual(2nd edition) as well as Teaching in Nursing: A guide for Faculty by Diane Billings. I would recommend both books, but in hindsight, using the Billings book as a primary reference might have been a better choice to increase my confidence while taking the exam.

Good luck to those studying and retaking the exam. I took the exam yesterday and didn't pass either. I failed by 9. I used the 2nd edition of the Certified Nurse Educator Review Manual and Billings' Teaching in Nursing: A Guide for Faculty.

Of the two, the Billings book would be the better one as mentioned previously. I also watched an archived CNE Prep webinar on Nurse Tim's site by Billings.

I really didn't find the webinar helpful at all. After losing $375 I don't plan to retake; one and done as far as I am concerned.

I too felt I couldn't have prepared any differently. I studied for the CNE for about 3 weeks total. Haynes manual pdf. I started by reading as much of Teaching in Nursing by Billings as I could, then used the CNE Exam Manual. I made several sets of notecards on Quizlet.com based on information I found in Billings and this manual. If you would like to use them, they are open to the public for use. Just search 'CNE Prep' on.

There are 5 sets total. I took the SAE one day before my exam and made additional quizlet cards on information I wasn't already familiar with. I would highly recommend having that information memorized and learned well enough that you could explain it to a high schooler. I would also recommend finding YouTube videos to help you really understand the learning theories, especially if you are a visual learner. I rented the CNE Exam manual for $14 and downloaded it to my Kindle app on my iPad because I wasn't willing to invest in the hard copy. Well worth the money to rent.

Studying this book alone might be adequate for some learners, but it's important to realize that most of the questions you are going to be asked on the CNE are higher level application and analysis questions. This book can give you a good working knowledge of some of the information, but may not be adequate for everyone. The practice quizzes and exam in this book are nothing like the actual exam because they are mostly lower level questions. I passed the CNE on my first attempt. It is worth the energy and investment. Good luck, everyone!

This is the set of cards I used to study for the CNE. I based this information off of Teaching in Nursing by Billings, the CNE exam manual (second edition), and information I missed on my SAE. I passed my exam on the first attempt with about 3 weeks of preparation.

For visual learners, I would highly recommend finding YouTube videos that will help explain the learning theories in greater detail. There are not very many lower level learning theory questions on the CNE exam, but thorough understan.
