Hopefully you can confirm I'm on the right track or head me in another direction. I can figure lots of things out but if get too much into the electrical end of this thing I'll be lost. Model 4KY FA26100J Spec J, SN g010263059. Have operator manual & Service Manual.
Bought this 2 yrs ago, put new carb & air filter & fuel filter in it worked fine but never exercised it for long periods of time. It sat & mouse habitated. Got that all cleaned out but spring on the choke lever shaft had gotten dislodged so not sure connected in right position. Got it running & even got it to run several times loaded for 2 hrs. But it sometimes required a little manual assistance to get the butterfly shaped part to shift forward.
Then when it did it was far back (more of butterfly to the front) of the original factory marked black line where it sat when originally installed & running good. Then it started surging 'searching' with the choke/throttle 'butterfly' moving forward & back but mainly like it was full throttled & super fast. I got B12 Chemtool & started running that thru the carb. Let it sit over the weekend & then it wouldn't start at all.
No gas was coming thru. So have just installed a new pump & generator starts & runs but requiring some manual assistance again with choke/throttle when it starts (to get the butterfuly shaped part to move forward). So making some progress again with it running. I got it to run about a hr & then it shut itself down. No error code. Started again but needs some assistance at start up with the choke/throttle. It will running smoothly about 6-10 minutes with load & then shut down.
This last one coded 14 (had gotten some 13 & 14's) before starting carb cleaning & replacing the fuel pump. Noticed the genset is getting extremely hot in a very short time.
It does happen to be 90+ outside & it is sitting out in the sun (not installed in rv). The covers are installed as designated. Do I just need to continue cleaning out the carb & maybe remove it. While waiting for parts I took the bowl off the old carb & cleaned it all out. Someone on youtube had surging issues like mine & showed the cleaning process (I had nothing to loose). Very gummed on the bottom & orifice.
Tempted to pull the 'new' carb & re-install the old one to see if it works. Downside is always risk gasket damage & more delay as no spares at the moment. Is the choke lever spring attached in right spot? - Do I just need to keep cleaning out the carb or??? - What might be causing genset to be too hot to touch the choke/throttle levers in just a few minutes (just outside temps or?). This probably due to varnish still not cleaned out of carb?
Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction (& forgiving me for such a long post.just trying explain what done so far). Hoping this is something simple. Once get this thing running correctly will probably try to find it a new home & get something not quite so tempermental.
